Apple iPhone 3G Officially Announced

Apple iPhone 3G Officially Announced!

Finally it's happened! The 3G iPhone we've all been anxiously waiting for for quite a long time was officially announced today. Without the unnecessary talk let's get down to business. The most notable features (or rather improvements) of the new handset include:

  • Thinner edges;
  • Plastic back;
  • Headphone jack;
  • iPhone 2.0 firmware;
  • 3G speeds 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750;
  • Battery:
    - 300 hours of standby;
    - 8-10 hours of 2G talk;
    - 5 hours of 3G talk;
    - 7 hours of video;
    - 24 hours of audio;
  • GPS/A-GPS

Wi-Fi is of course present, but unfortunately the new iPhone lacks the front 3G cam, which is a little disappointing...

Eventually Apple plans to release the 3G iPhone in 70 markets starting with the 22 biggest ones on July 11th. The official U.S. carrier is AT&T, naturally, which will sell the handset with a contract for $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB (white) versions, respectively.
